PSEUDO-GYNOCOMASTIA (Man Boobs)

Pseudo-gynecomastia, commonly known as ‘Man Boobs’ or ‘Moobs’, is the result of having excess fat situated over the pectoral muscles on the chest. The term pseudo-gynecomastia has developed from the original medical condition of gynecomastia. From appearances, the conditions can appear the same, with excess tissue the impression of male breasts. Usually, men who have unusually large breasts will find that this is caused by excessive fat. It is common for this to develop to a slight extent as men age, but fatty breasts can be common even in younger men if they become obese.

However, the underlying causes differ. Gynecomastia develops due to a hormonal imbalance of oestrogen and testosterone, which can cause the breast tissue to swell and sometimes become painful. ‘Man Boobs’ are formed due to pseudo-gynecomastia., which is caused by fat deposition.

The breasts are one of the four most commonly treated areas on men, the others being the flanks, the abdomen, chin, and jowls area. Men who have a lot of fat on their breasts can achieve a dramatic improvement in the appearance of their physique following Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injections.

Excessive fat around male breasts can be unattractive and many men decide to tackle the issue using liposuction, however this problem can also be treated with Fat Dissolving Injections which are less invasive and risk free. In theory, the excess fat storage leading to pseudo-gynecomastia may be reduced by general weight loss. This is occasionally achieved with the combination of a healthy diet and regular aerobic activity. However, healthy dieting and exercise may not be able to target fat loss in a specific area. When localised areas of fat storage, such as the man boobs, remain stubborn, Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injections are an effective non-invasive option of treatment.

  • What are the benefits of Alidya?
    - Improving the appearance of cellulite - Tightening and firming of the skin - Stimulating collagen production - Improving skin elasticity - Non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment
  • Is it painful?
Although everyone’s pain tolerance is different, there’s no pain involved in this treatment, but you may feel some discomfort such as redness and swelling on the treated area for up to 12 hours after the treatment has been completed. The pain is secondary to the mesotherapy injections applied to the skin.
  • How does Alidya work?
Alidya is a treatment made from amino acids, created to be used in the areas affected by cellulite. It comes in the form of an intradermal injection, administered for at least 10 sessions, each separated by about 7-10 days. The concentration of active substances in this solution is quite high, which allows it to work on different levels – it not only tones the skin but also stimulates the metabolism of the cells and improves their circulation. The ingredients are well distributed across the area that needs treatment, up to its deepest layers. This way, the body processes fats, and toxins much more efficiently. The results are fast and visible from the first applications, the tissues are free of toxins, the skin becomes smooth, elastic, and firm, the local thickness is significantly reduced, and cellulite disappears.

  • How long do the results last?
The duration of the results from Alidya treatment for cellulite can vary, but on average, they tend to last from 6 to 12 months. The longevity of the results also depends on factors such as the individual’s skin type, lifestyle, and age. Clients may require maintenance treatments to maintain the desired results.
  • Is it safe?
All treatments carry a degree of risk. At Bela Aesthetics all risks and complications related to your specific treatment will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed. Alidya is a well-researched and clinically proven treatment that can help you get rid of cellulite. It has been used by many people around the world for years now and has helped them achieve their goals. The most significant advantage of this product is that it doesn’t have any side effects or risks associated with it due to its natural ingredients called amino acids which are made from natural sources like yeast extract, rice bran extract, and green tea leaf extract. Alidya’s side effects are mostly from the injection rather than the treatment itself. Therefore, bruises and haematomas can happen and will resolve over time.

  • What can I expect from Non-Surgical Facelift at Bela Aesthetics?
With most of our clients, a combination of treatments is needed to achieve the best possible results. Each individual has singular needs and desired outcomes differ from person to person. For that reason, your Non-surgical Facelift starts with a face-to-face consultation. After an in-depth consultation to determine your needs and goals, we will discuss possible treatment options. Together we will create a Bespoke plan of care to meet your requirements and establish costs for your specific treatment. Your non-surgical facelift package will include a combination of treatments, which might include Dermal fillers, Botulinum Toxin (Known as Botox), Mesotherapy or Skin Boosters – whatever we believe will deliver the best results. Our aim is to help you to achieve greater facial harmony, so you always look the best version of yourself. At Bela Aesthetics, we usually carry out your Bespoke plan of treatments over a number of appointments. There’s no pressure; you’re always in control and we will proceed at a pace that suits you. Likewise, we do so to ensure that when we use different products, we deliver them according to guidelines and spaced out to avoid any possible side effects/ complications that can arise from “mixture” of products. We promise to make you look and feel at your best; hence safety is paramount to us.
  • What are the benefits of Non-Surgical Face Lift?
Non-Surgical Face Lift is a quick and convenient treatment in today’s Aesthetics world. In just one session (sometimes more than one sitting is needed, depending of treatment plan), your face is radically lifted, requiring no scalpels, stitches, or anaesthesia making it relatively painless. The ground-breaking 8-point face lift targets key facial areas while minimising the amount of filler injected into the skin, promoting a balanced holistic face lift with minimum puffiness. It is the ideal treatment for those with a busy schedule, requiring little to no downtime recovery and enabling you to get on with your life in as little as one day. The advanced active ingredients gently lift the face from within, promoting natural skin regeneration and skin-tightening results. The gel-like dermal fillers add volume and effectively reduce fine lines and wrinkles, leaving you with a youthfully contoured and visibly lifted face.
  • Will a Non-Surgical Facelift give the same result as a Surgical Facelift?
A non-surgical facelift is a completely different treatment concept from a surgical facelift. A surgical facelift is designed to re-drape and remove sagging skin, whereas a non-surgical facelift is about improving the skin, which still lifts the facial aesthetic concerns significantly. Apart from this, the main difference between the two procedures is the downtime. With a surgical facelift, you will likely need a week off work, whereas with a non-surgical facelift you can usually go back to work the next day or, at most, after a weekend off. If you are still unsure of which is the best option for you, contact us to book a consultation for your facelift.
  • Is it painful?
Although everyone’s pain tolerance is different, there is no serious pain involved with a Non-Surgical Facelift. Most patients are completely comfortable throughout the treatment. Dermal fillers are strategically injected into the dermis to lift and contour facial features and promote your skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin. One session can target multiple problem areas or specific areas like jowls, crows feet, the corners of the mouth, sagging cheeks, and much more. At Bela Aesthetics, we use Hyaluronic acid products that contain Lidocaine (local anaesthetic). Your Aesthetician will apply topical anaesthetic cream, or ice, prior to treatment to numb the skin and help with any pain.
  • Am I suitable for treatment?
At Bela Aesthetics, we require that you attend an initial consultation to discussion with our Aesthetician about your expectations, the possible side effects, complications, what the treatment involves, pain control and aftercare. The consultation will determine if Hyaluronidase treatment is suitable for you. If it is decided that hyaluronidase is the best treatment option, a small test injection will be performed on the forearm as some people can have an allergic reaction. A small test patch must be used prior to a first treatment. If this is satisfactory after 20 to 40 minutes, then the hyaluronidase can be injected directly into the desired area. Hyaluronidase is not suitable if you have a history of serious allergy e.g. anaphylaxis response to an allergen or you are allergic to bee or insect stings.
  • Can I have dermal filler again after Hyaluronidase?
Yes, but you should wait 14 days after your treatment as the hyaluronidase can break down the new dermal filler.
  • Is it safe?
All treatments carry a degree of risk. At Bela Aesthetics all risks and complications related to your specific treatment will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed. Hyaluronidase is considered a low-risk treatment. Injection-related side effects, including swelling and bruising, are hyaluronidase’s most common side effects. In the rare event (1/2000 cases) that you were to experience the symptoms of anaphylaxis, such as trouble with breathing, swallowing, wheezing, or tongue swelling, you should seek urgent medical attention.Supposedly, anaphylaxis to hyaluronidase is more prevalent in those who are allergic to bee stings, as hyaluronidase is also contained in bee venom.
  • How soon can I dissolve my dermal filler?
If you have had dermal filler, it is recommended not to dissolve it for cosmetic reasons for 14 days after the initial treatment, as it is unlikely that you will have seen the final result due to post treatment swelling. If for any reason you are unhappy with the results of the treatment you have had, we advise that you wait to see full results before making a final decision. Where vascular compromise arises after dermal filler treatment, Hyaluronidase can be administered immediately, and should not be delayed. This is an emergency, therefore patch test is not required.
  • After treatment advice
At Bela Aesthetics, on the day of your planned treatment you will be given detailed after care instructions verbally and written. You may experience some bruising and swelling for a few days after treatment. If, having had treatment, you are at all concerned about symptoms you were not expecting or not happy with, please contact our Aesthetician for advice. If necessary, an appointment will be made for you to be seen. May you experience any side effects after your treatment you MUST contact us immediately.
  • Can Hyaluronidase dissolve all types of dermal filler?
Hyaluronidase can dissolve hyaluronic acid dermal fillers e.g. Juvéderm, Restylane, Perfecta, Princess, Teosyal. Restylane, Emervel and Belotero. Hyaluronidase can NOT dissolve non-hyaluronic-acid dermal fillers or other filling agents e.g. Radiasse, Sculptra, Ellansé, Artefill, Silicone or other non-HA fillers.
  • Is it painful?
The treatment is a little uncomfortable and can be more uncomfortable than the original filler application. To minimize your discomfort, we use topical anaesthetic on the skin to numb the area before the injection. The dissolving treatment itself will usually only take a few minutes. Your Aesthetician will inject the hyaluronidase into the area where the unwanted filler is located and may gently massage the injection site to ensure even distribution. If there is a strong reaction, such as swelling or redness, you may be required to remain in the clinic before leaving to ensure this does not progress to anaphylaxis (although the risk of this is very small).
  • What should I consider before deciding to have hyaluronidase treatment?
If you are thinking about removing your dermal fillers, using hyaluronidase, there are some things to consider, including: Allergies- Hyaluronidase is a substance that is also found in bees’ venom. So, if you are allergic to bees, you may also be allergic to hyaluronidase treatment. This means that if you aren’t sure if you’re allergic, to bees, you should probably check with your doctor, and have a patch test on your forearm to check for any allergy indicators like redness and swelling. Change in appearance - Many clients who have overfilled, especially those who have been overfilled for a prolonged period and then dissolved, are often unprepared for the change in their appearance post-hyaluronidase. The skin may appear more wrinkled, deflated, or loose, often within a day of having hyaluronidase injected. These differences may be more magnified the longer the filler has been in situ. It is important to remember that hyaluronidase does not permanently affect your natural hyaluronic acid and only permanently removes filler. Skin laxity, crepiness, or wrinkling may be due to a loss of volume from filler being removed. Choosing a professional team to work with- injecting this enzyme into the wrong area will not help remove your dermal fillers and could interfere with the hyaluronic acid found naturally in the facial tissue. You need to choose a professional team you can trust, for the best results. If you have a treatment elsewhere - we encourage you to contact the professional who performed your treatment. They will be in the best position to treat you based on their first-hand knowledge about your treatment. All aesthetic practitioners should be able to provide this treatment if they are performing Dermal Fillers. If they are unable to help you - we would need a verbal and written referral from the practitioner where you initially had treatment. So, we can perform an assessment of the problem, assess the medical records detailing the treatment, the product used, the product volumes and placement. Provided it was in our scope of practice and subject to arranging insurance on a case-by-case basis we would do our up-most to help, otherwise we can sign post to an expert in dealing with more complex problems. • Post-treatment advice
At Bela Aesthetics, on the day of your planned treatment you will be given detailed after care instructions verbally and written. After treatment, most people can resume their normal daily activities. Immediately after treatment, there may be some redness, minor swelling at the injection sites and pin-prick marks, which should settle in time. If, having had treatment, you are at all concerned about symptoms you were not expecting or not happy with, please contact our Aesthetician for advice. If necessary, an appointment will be made for you to be seen. May you experience any side effects after your treatment you MUST contact us immediately.
  • Am I suitable for treatment?
At Bela Aesthetics, we require that you attend an initial consultation to discussion with our Aesthetician about your expectations, the possible side effects, complications, what the treatment involves, pain control and aftercare. Botulinum Toxin (commonly referred to as Botox) is a prescription only medicine, therefore it is paramount that you have a face-to-face consultation 2 weeks prior to treatment. You ARE NOT suitable for treatment if any of the following apply: - If you are pregnant or breastfeeding. - If you have certain neurological disorders - If you have previously experienced adverse reactions to any botulinum toxin treatment - Treatment is not recommended if you are suffering from any skin infection in or near the treatment area - You are unwell in any way (even a cold). - If you are taking any medicines which affect bleeding, such as aspirin or warfarin. - If you are currently or have recently completed a course of Roacutane (acne treatment) in the last 18 months.
  • What are Anti-wrinkle injections?
Botulinum toxin can only treat lines of expression (dynamic lines) and lines that are present when the muscle is not contracted, and the face is relaxed (static lines) generally do not improve with anti-wrinkle injections. Your Aesthetician may discuss other treatments to deal with these. As a result, injected muscles can’t contract. These effects are always temporary but can last for several months. The muscle injected depends on the primary area of concern. Several areas can be treated in one session. Botulinum toxin has been licensed for the temporary improvement in moderate to severe lateral canthal lines (crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes), glabellar lines (frown lines between the eyebrows) and horizontal forehead lines.
  • How does it work?
The effects of botulinum toxin are not instant, and most people will start to notice the results after about 4 days, having the full effect by about day 10. At Bela Aesthetics we offer a follow-up appointment at 2 weeks, when the effects of treatment can be reviewed. Additional botulinum toxin may be administered at this time if needed. Over approximately 3 to 4 months, the nerve terminal recovers and movement in the treated area restarts. Treatment can be repeated at this time to maintain the desired results. It is not recommended to repeat treatments at intervals of less than 3 months. Static lines that are present at rest, may soften once the botulinum toxin has taken effect and with repeated treatments may continue to improve as the skin recovers and is no longer being created by constant muscle action. There are no known long-term side-effects from having repeated treatments, although there may be some muscle wasting (atrophy) with repeated treatments.
  • Is it safe?
All treatments carry a degree of risk. At Bela Aesthetics all risks and complications related to your specific treatment will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed. Botulinum Toxin (BOTOX®) side effects include, but are not limited to: - Bruising - Swelling at injection sites - Redness at injection sites - Headache or a sensation of ‘tightness’ or ‘heaviness’ Adverse events are uncommon, usually occur within a few days of treatment and are expected to be temporary, usually resolving spontaneously within weeks.
  • Is it painful?
Botulinum toxin is injected using a fine needle, similar to the size used on an insulin pen. It is generally not painful, and most people will only experience minor discomfort. Some people describe the sensation like plucking an eyebrow. Very rarely, for people who cannot tolerate the procedure, a topical anaesthetic cream or ice may be applied prior to treatment to reduce the sensation.
  • Am I suitable for treatment?
At Bela Aesthetics, we require that you attend an initial consultation to discussion with our Aesthetician about your expectations, the possible side effects, complications, what the treatment involves, pain control and aftercare. You ARE NOT suitable for treatment if any of the following apply: - You are suffering from any skin infection in or near the treatment area or are unwell in any way (even a cold). - You have previously experienced allergic reactions to any dermal filler or local anaesthetic. - You are taking any medicines which affect bleeding, such as aspirin or warfarin. - You are taking steroids or have autoimmune disease. - You have any bleeding disorders. - You suffer from a poorly controlled medical condition. - You are pregnant or breastfeeding. - You are currently or have recently completed a course of Roacutane (Isotretinoin acne treatment) in the last 18 months. - You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • How does it work?
During normal ageing, the fat compartments of the face lose volume and the ligaments holding them in place become weaker leading to a sagging appearance. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are extremely ‘hydrophilic’ or water loving. When they are injected, they boost the skins volume, so the area becomes revitalised and volumised. By placing the dermal filler in specific anatomical positions, this can also create a lifting effect. Adding volume helps to address issues such as volume loss, laxity and sagging of the skin, having a positive effect on lines and wrinkles. They can also be injected directly beneath lines to help soften and improve them.
  • Post-treatment advice
At Bela Aesthetics, on the day of your planned treatment you will be given detailed after care instructions verbally and written. After treatment, most people can resume their normal daily activities. Immediately after treatment, there may be some redness, tenderness and swelling at the injection sites. Bruising may be obvious immediately after treatment and may be quite pronounced. If, having had treatment, you are at all concerned about symptoms you were not expecting or not happy with, please contact the practitioner for advice. If necessary, an appointment will be made for you to be seen. May you experience any side effects after your treatment you MUST contact us immediately.
  • What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule found in all skin and soft tissues throughout the body, identical across species. It attracts and binds water in the skin, providing volume and hydration, but also ‘cushioning’ and supporting collagen and elastin fibres and providing a medium, or carrier, for chemical messages between the cells. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are a clear sterile gel in a syringe for injection into the skin providing instant correction. Dermal fillers are manufactured, usually through fermentation and cross linking with proteins to produce a clear, sterile gel for injection into the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a carbohydrate which is found naturally in our body. Not all hyaluronic acids are the same and legitimate brands are NOT available for general sale on the internet and should only be administered by trained clinicians. Each brand has a range of ‘tissue tailored’ products designed for specific results. One size does not fit all. We will advise which one is the best for the particular area. Treatment planning is a personalised process and is designed around your individual needs.
  • Is it painful?
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are injected using a small needle, a cannula or both and creates an instant filling out effect. Most dermal filler injections contain a small amount of lidocaine, which is a local anaesthetic to help reduce any pain experienced during the procedure. Even with the addition of local anaesthetic, it is not a pain free treatment, and it will depend on the injection technique, whether a cannula or needle is used and the individual’s pain tolerance. In some circumstances, a topical anaesthetic may be used to provide additional pain relief, particularly when treating more sensitive areas, such as the lips. This will be applied to the skin and left on the surface for 20-30 minutes to take effect. Once the anaesthetic has worn off, there may be some tenderness which is expected, but you should not experience a significant degree of pain. If you are experiencing considerable pain after the treatment, you must contact your Aesthetician as this could indicate that you are developing a complication.
  • Is it safe?
All treatments carry a degree of risk. At Bela Aesthetics all risks and complications related to your specific treatment will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed. Millions of people worldwide have had these injections and the safety of the product is well established. You should be aware that most dermal filler products contain 0.3% of lidocaine so may produce a positive result in anti-doping tests. Due to the use of a needle, there is likely to be some bleeding at the injection site. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are considered to be the safest, as their effect can be reversed by injecting hyaluronidase enzyme which dissolves it. This is used when potential complications of treatment appear or clients are not happy with previous treatments/ results they had experienced.
  • Is it safe?
All treatments carry a degree of risk. At Bela Aesthetics all risks and complications related to your specific treatment will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed. Profhilo® is a safe, effective, skin bio-remodelling treatment that naturally stimulates the production of collagen & elastin to lift and tighten the skin as well as significantly improve skin quality. Due to Profhilo®’s unique properties including the composition of the product and absence of additives, Profhilo® offers greater safety and reduced side effects compared to other injectable treatments.
  • What can I expect during my Profhilo® treatment?
Often called a ‘lunchtime facial treatment’, Profhilo® is a quick treatment – taking about 10 minutes with no downtime. It is injected just under the skin, using a very fine needle, in ten specific areas; five injection points on each side of the face to deliver optimum results. Some patients describe a bee sting like sensation as the Hyualuronic Acid is injected into the skin. This treatment usually does not require a topical numbing cream prior to treatment. At Bela Aesthetics, we only offer the full Profhilo® treatment protocol which consists of two sessions, one month apart, this is to ensure maximum results are achieved. If signs of ageing are significant, an additional treatment may be recommended four to eight weeks later. We recommend maintenance treatments every 6 months to maintain and enhance the skin rejuvenative effect.
  • Am I suitable for Profhilo® treatment?
Our Aesthetician will ask about your medical history to determine if you are a good candidate for Profhilo® treatment in order to avoid complications and unsatisfactory results. The ideal age for Profhilo® treatment is 35+ years however Profhilo® offers exceptional results in both younger and older patients wishing to prevent skin laxity, improve skin quality, reverse the signs of ageing. • What makes Profhilo® unique?
The unique properties of Profhilo® are a true breakthrough in anti-ageing medicine. Not only does Profhilo® firm and plump the skin in a way that neither Botox or Dermal Fillers can, it effectively remodels the dermal tissues to deliver superior skin rejuvenative effects resulting in smoother, brighter, hydrated skin. Profhilo® consists of one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid (HA) available in any aesthetic product. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance, which is a major component of our skin and has a function in wound repair, hydration, and cell to cell communication. One of the main characteristics of hyaluronic acid is that it effectively binds water like a sponge. Profhilo® has been around since 2015, so it is a relatively new treatment, but has a low risk of complications. It comprises of a combination of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (64mg of hyaluronic acid in a 2ml pre-filled syringe, 32mg of high molecular weight HA and 32mg of low molecular weight HA). Unlike most HA products that are cross-linked using chemical agents, Profhilo® is thermally stabilised. The thermal stabilisation process changes the character and behaviour of the HA and allows it to have a longer lasting effect. As there are no chemical cross-linking agents, Profhilo® contains pure hyaluronic acid. Due to the revolutionary nature of Profhilo® the whole face can be treated in around 15 minutes and bio-remodelling can be achieved in just two treatment sessions carried out four weeks apart. In order to maintain the results, additional treatments may be performed after 6-12 months.

Mesotherapy cocktails are composed by: amino acids (e.g. arginine, cystine, glutamine etc), vitamins (e.g. Vitamin A, C, E etc), minerals (e.g. magnesium, sodium etc), nucleosides (e.g. deoxyadenosine, deoxycytidine etc), co-enzymes (e.g. co enzyme q10, NAD), glutathione, flavonoids, plant extracts, hyaluronic acid. In the case of stimulating collagen production, substances are included which create a favourable environment for this. These substances are selected according to the purpose of the mesotherapy. For example, Vitamin C is added because it speeds up DNA synthesis and is essential for collagen synthesis. Vitamin B2 is involved in getting energy from carbohydrates and fat. To treat cellulite: l-carnitine, caffeine, isoproterenol, thyroxine (lipolytic), rutin, aminophylline, pentoxiphylline (venostatic), artichoke and gingko biloba (drainage), procaine (anaesthetic), collagenase, hyaluronidase (connective tissue breakdown). For skin improvement: hyaluronic acid, multivitamins and trace elements (ionic balance of the skin), amino acids and vegetal proteins (protein reconstruction), dimethylaminoethanol (causes muscle contraction leading to muscle firmness), hexapeptide 3 (relaxes muscles and smooths wrinkles) Alopecia: multivitamins, sometimes finasteride and minoxidil.

All treatments carry a degree of risk. At Bela Aesthetics all risks and complications related to your specific treatment will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed. With Mesotherapy side effects are generally minimal and limited to discomfort, bruising, or inflammation at the injection site or below. These usually clear up within 24-48 hours.
  • How does Mesotherapy work?
Mesotherapy leaves clients with hydrated, more plump, fresher, and firm skin, restoring natural glow and providing you with the youthful contours you’ve always wanted. Mesotherapy can instantly improve dull, tired looking skin and superficial wrinkles but can also help to improve sluggish blood circulation, aiding the body to flush out ageing toxins. This treatment can also be used to address pigmentation problems, treat acne scaring and be combined to enhance the effects of other aesthetic treatments such as Anti-wrinkle or Dermal fillers. Mesotherapy is also designed to tighten and tone sagging skin, reduce the appearance of cellulite, can be used on the face, neck, decollate (chest) and hollows of the eye. The ideal treatment is a course of 3 sessions, at 2–3 weeks intervals. Each session consists of micro-injections just under the skin. Results are visible after the 1st session but will become more noticeable after the course is complete.

All treatments carry a degree of risk. At Bela Aesthetics all risks and complications related to your specific treatment will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed. Though many people are increasingly concerned with their skin condition and uncertain about the specifics of the Skin Boosters treatment, you can be assured that these treatments will have far-reaching effects. You will immediately notice an improvement in the tone, texture, and feel of your skin, as well as a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and an increase in elasticity. Your skin will glow, and this effect will improve with each session.
  • How does Skin Boosters work?
Skin booster injections are a soft, gel-like substance called Hyaluronic Acid (HA). This is a substance that occurs naturally in the skin and holds incredible amounts of moisture. However, HA depletes with many factors including age, sun damage, genetics, smoking and environmental factors which is what causes skin to become dry and dehydrated. Microinjections of hyaluronic acid restores the moisture in the skin, which improves its elasticity, firmness, and radiance. Skin Boosters are injected using microdroplet or mesotherapy technique of tiny injections. This process of delivering skin boosters also triggers the skin’s own repair resulting in collagen production and improved skin elasticity. The effects are noticeable within a week of therapy, but they become considerably more evident after the second session. Depending on the patient’s skin type and skincare routine, the results persist between six months and a year. However, for best results skin boosters are best in session of 3-4 treatments with a yearly maintenance to ensure maximum results and hydration.

As the skin gradually absorbs the gel, the swelling decreases within 24–48 hours. In some cases, there may be light bruises too. If, having had treatment, you are at all concerned about symptoms you were not expecting or not happy with, please contact the practitioner for advice. If necessary, an appointment will be made for you to be seen. May you experience any side effects after your treatment you MUST contact us immediately.
  • Is it painful?
Skin Boosters treatments are not painful. The injections contain growth factors that help stimulate collagen production and improve the appearance of your skin. On the treatment day, if required, topical anaesthesia is administered to numb the pains that will arise from the piercing of skin with a very fine and small needle. The treatment can be administered at various stages and intervals, depending on indications and your needs.
  • When does it start to work?
The treatment begins to work immediately. However, there is a lot of swelling for the first week or so (it looks very swollen like a bullfrog for about a week or so). Some people report that their swelling does not completely disappear for four to six weeks post treatment. This is all part of the process and is to be anticipated. There is no way to speed up this process, and in fact this inflammation helps to give the best results, by causing tissue contraction.
  • Is it painful?
Aqualyx treatments are often described as minimally uncomfortable; however, the experience may vary depending on individual factors. During the initial Aqualyx treatment, the use of local anaesthesia and the absence of previous bruising or swelling contribute to a virtually painless experience. However, as subsequent treatments are administered, especially if they are scheduled closer together, residual swelling may persist. This can lead to heightened irritation beneath the skin, resulting in mild to moderate discomfort for the patient. The level of discomfort experienced throughout the treatment series can vary depending on factors such as the treatment area and the individual patient. While some patients may find the discomfort tolerable, it is important to note that categorising Aqualyx treatments as completely painless would be inaccurate.
  • Post-treatment advice
At Bela Aesthetics, on the day of your procedure you will be given detailed after care instructions verbally and written. Following your Aqualyx treatment, as the effects of the local anaesthesia begin to diminish, you may start to experience some discomfort. If you encounter any pain, we recommend taking paracetamol as needed. However, it is important to avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen or Aspirin, as they can thin the blood and potentially interfere with the effectiveness of the Aqualyx solution. It is normal to observe swelling and bruising in the treated area for approximately 2-3 days after receiving the Aqualyx administration. Please rest assured that this is a typical response and should not cause concern. Over the course of the following week, the swelling will gradually decrease, along with a reduction in both the redness and size of the swelling. During the initial 48 hours post-treatment, you may notice redness and a warm sensation in the treated area. It is also common to experience some bruising, itching, and mild aches. Additionally, for up to a month, the skin in the treated area may feel numb. If, having had treatment, you are at all concerned about symptoms you were not expecting or not happy with, please contact your Aesthetician for advice. If necessary, an appointment will be made for you to be seen. May you experience any side effects after your treatment you must contact us immediately.
  • What is Aqualyx and how it works?
Aqualyx is made from several different plant-based compounds – the active component is found naturally occurring in the human body. The product is a solution of deoxycholic acid which emulsifies fats. It dissolves the membranes of fat cells in the treated area. Once the fat cells become unstable, they break down, and the body’s immune system then eliminates the fatty acids via the lymphatic system and liver. Unlike liposuction, the treatment will also cause skin tightening in the area, so you are less likely to end up with loose skin feeling more contoured and toned. Aqulayx will break down subcutaneous fat over a month and in most cases starts to work straight away once the product is injected. The human body has fatty deposits in areas like the abdomen and thighs to supply energy in times of need. However, due to a genetical predisposition, some fatty deposits cannot be broken down by diet and exercises alone, and the weight cannot be shifted. This leaves small rolls of unsightly fat in certain areas in the body. If you are struggling with these pockets of fat Aqualyx injections can be very effective at reducing them while creating body sculpting and contouring. If you are concerned about the downtime and pain of traditional fat reduction surgery like liposuction, then Aqualyx could be an excellent treatment for you.

At Bela Aesthetics all risks and complications related to your specific treatment will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed. Aqualyx was developed by Professor Pasquale Motolese, President of the Italian Society of Aesthetic Surgery and Medicine. It has been CE approval for use in the UK, which means it meets the health and safety standards required by the European Union. There are very few adverse effects reported, other than swelling for 7-10 days after the treatment with can be uncomfortable. Complications are very rare but can include pain, bruising and itching.
  • Am I suitable for treatment?
As long as you are generally healthy and don’t have any skin diseases or infections in the treated area there are few medical reasons why you should not undergo Aqualyx fat dissolving injections treatment. However, Aqualyx® is not recommended for: - Pregnancy and breast feeding or undergoing IVF. - Severe anaphylactic reactions and allergies - Auto-immune disease - Anyone with lipodystrophy, or pathological conditions eg diabetics, liver or kidney disease. - Active skin conditions in the area to be treated. - Acute or chronic skin disease in affected areas - Area unsuitable for treatment (alternative treatment options can be recommended) - Blood thinning medications e.g. warfarin. - Clients should be over 18 and under the age of 60 years of age. • Is it safe?
All treatments carry a degree of risk. At Bela Aesthetics all risks and complications related to your specific treatment will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed. Very few side-effects have been reported in clinical trials and in actual usage. However, you might experience some common injection-related reactions, like swelling, pain, itching and tenderness at the injection site. This usually settles within 24-48 hours. If you have a history of herpes, you may experience a herpes breakout after receiving Radiesse® (+). Radiesse® (+) consists of time-tested and biocompatible materials that have been used in medicine for over 20 years. More than 6 million Radiesse treatments have been carried out worldwide. Radiesse® (+) has been approved by regulatory authorities for the treatment of facial wrinkles and folds. Hundreds of thousands of patients have now been treated with Radiesse® (+). Following years of clinical studies and research, Radiesse® (+) has been proven to be safe and effective: it is an FDA approved treatment. It has been CE approval for use in the UK, which means it meets the health and safety standards required by the European Union.
  • Is Radiesse® (+) a permanent dermal filler?
No, Radiesse® (+) is not a permanent filler. While it provides immediate results, the effects of Radiesse® (+) are not permanent. Over time, the calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in Radiesse® (+) are naturally metabolised by the body. This gradual breakdown allows the body’s own collagen to replace the volume, providing natural looking results.
  • How does Radiesse® (+) work?
Radiesse® (+) works through a dual mechanism. When injected, the gel-like substance instantly provides volume and lift to the treated area, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and folds. Additionally, the calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. As collagen forms around the microspheres, it helps to maintain the volume and improve the skin’s elasticity over time. Radiesse® (+) is different to other dermal fillers as it works with your body stimulating collagen production and encouraging tissue regeneration just below the skin’s surface. It does more than just temporarily fill-in facial lines and wrinkles – it rebuilds your skin’s foundation. As Radiesse® (+) is injected, the gel and Radiesse® microspheres form a “scaffold”, stimulating collagen production and encouraging tissue growth in and around the injection area. This “partnership” between Radiesse® and your own body creates a natural look, comprised of your own tissue and Radiesse® microspheres. Over time (usually around 6 weeks), your body absorbs the gel carrier while collagen has started to grow and infiltrate the area, replacing the gel with your own, natural tissue. The Radiesse® microspheres continue to provide the support and structure for your body to grow new tissue and collagen until the microspheres are also safely and naturally absorbed into your body.

The addition of lidocaine helps to improve the comfort of the injection.
  • Is it painful?

  • Can I shave between waxing appointments?
No! Please do not shave between waxing appointments as it disrupts the hair growth cycle resulting in more hair at your next appointment. It is normal to notice a small amount of re-growth a week or so after the waxing. It may take up to four treatments for your hair to get used to a growth cycle that gives best results. To maintain a smooth appearance, we recommend regular waxing every 4-6 weeks.
  • Will waxing make my hair grow back thicker/stronger/darker?
Absolutely not! Waxing does not cause you to grow more hair follicles. In fact, if you become a regular waxer, you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse and not as coarse. When hair is shaved, it is cut off at the thick part of the hair, which is why you can feel stubble the next day. A properly waxed hair is removed from the root, and when the hair starts to grow back it is a new hair, very fine at the tip, so no stubble. The only things known to stimulate hair growth are hormones: natural or artificial.
  • How can I prevent ingrown hairs after waxing?
For the next 24-48 hours after your waxing treatment avoid: - use of exfoliating products (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA) products, loofahs, scrubs, etc.) - direct sun exposure and tanning beds - creams with fragrance or ingredients that may irritate - deodorant: it results in irritation and clogging of open follicles - wearing tight clothing: results in irritation and inflammation - excessive heat, such as that from hot tubs and saunas. Warm showers are okay. - exercise, if it may cause chaffing or sweating - touching the freshly waxed area: this encourages irritation After 24-48 hours, regular exfoliation with a shower gel and loofah or exfoliating glove will help keep skin soft and prevent ingrown hairs. Apply an SPF 30 or greater sunscreen to any exposed treatment areas. Since waxing exfoliates as well as removing hair, your skin will be more prone to sunburn in the days following your treatment.
  • Why should I choose to wax?
Longer-lasting results: Unlike shaving, which only removes hair from the surface of the skin, waxing removes hair from the root, which means you can enjoy smoother skin for longer periods of time. Smoother skin: Waxing helps to exfoliate the skin, which can leave it feeling smoother and softer. Thinner and finer hair growth: Over time, waxing can lead to thinner and finer hair growth, making it easier and less painful to remove hair in the future. Reduced ingrown hairs: Waxing can help reduce the occurrence of ingrown hairs, which can be a common problem with other hair removal methods. Convenience: Waxing is a relatively quick and convenient hair removal method, with most sessions taking between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • What is a Hollywood or Brazilian wax?
Brazilian and Hollywood waxing is our speciality! Brazilian waxing leave a strip at the top (as thick or as thin as you like) or we can even leave more of a triangular shape! Absolutely all hair is removed from underneath and right round the back. You will be left silky smooth and ready to be seen in your birthday suit! Hollywood waxing leaves nothing to the imagination! Absolutely everything is removed from front right to the back. Whether this is your first “all off” bikini wax or you are a regular our experienced aesthetician has seen it all before and will put you at ease. At Bela Aesthetics, we use two different types of wax for our Brazilian and Hollywood waxing treatments, warm strip wax and hot wax. The warm wax is used on standard bikini line areas however hot wax is used on more sensitive areas as in our years of experience we have found this to be much less painful with a quicker healing rate. Please state your preferred wax at the beginning of the treatment (if you do have a preference), otherwise we will choose the one most suitable for you. Intimate waxing can be painful but is minimised with the use of hot wax which deals with the challenge of hair removal on sensitive skin and the removal of coarse hair. In order to keep your Intimate waxing in tip top shape, we recommend coming to see us every 4-5 weeks.
  • How does waxing work?
As its name suggests, hair removal waxing involves spreading a specially formulated wax thinly over the skin. In strip waxing, a cloth or paper strip is then pressed onto the soft wax and pulled off quickly against the natural direction of the hair. Hot wax is also available at Bela Aesthetics. Hot wax may feel slightly hotter in temperature compared to strip wax. It is applied to the skin and left to dry, then peeling a little edge away the therapist is able to pull off the strip of wax in one!
  • How long, or short, should my hair be prior to waxing?
The hair should be at least 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch for best results. If you have coarse hair, it should be closer to 1/2-inch for the first few waxes. Once the hair becomes finer it can be waxed at a shorter length. If your hair is longer, I recommend shaving the area and booking your waxing appointment for two to three weeks later. It may take up to three waxing treatments to achieve smooth skin due to the fact that hair grows in stages and all of your hair is never at the same stage. It is very important to avoid shaving between waxing appointments, as this will interrupt the process and stimulate the hair growth again. Thus, if you’re going on holiday and want to be hair free while you’re away you need to plan your waxing treatments now, for the best results.
  • Post-treatment advice
At Bela Aesthetics, on the day of your planned treatment you will be given detailed after care instructions verbally and written. Immediately after treatment, we apply plenty of soothing oil/ lotion to avoid any possible reaction whilst we do a final check to ensure all hairs have been removed. After treatment, you can resume to your normal daily activities. You may experience some temporary redness and minor irritation for a day or two. Slight itchiness may be present as the hair grows out. If, having had treatment, you are at all concerned about symptoms you were not expecting or not happy with, please contact the practitioner for advice. If necessary, an appointment will be made for you to be seen. May you experience any side effects after your treatment you MUST contact us immediately.
  • Pre-treatment advice
Please be advised that: If you’re a bride, attending a special occasion or going on holiday, we recommend receiving waxing services a month before your special day or departure to see how your skin reacts. If you do not have an adverse reaction to the treatment, we can reschedule another wax a few days before your special ocassion. Before your waxing treatment, we advise to: - Refrain from taking a shower or bath immediately before the treatment. Soaking the hair will soften it, allowing it to break more easily and making waxing less effective. - Make sure the hair is the appropriate length for waxing. - Make sure that the area(s) to be waxed are clean. - There are certain medications and products that should not be taken or used if you plan to have a waxing treatment soon. Topical exfoliants used on the area to be waxed such as Retin-A, Renova, and hydroquinone, oral acne medications such as Accutane, blood-thinning medications, and topical/oral cortisone make the skin more sensitive and increase the likelihood of irritation or other complications. - Please check with our aesthetician if you are unsure whether you should be waxed while on or using a medication. Intimate waxing, on treatment day: You will be required to remove your underwear for Intimate waxing treatments. We have been performing intimate bikini waxing for over 5 years. We have seen it all before so please don’t feel embarrassed!! You will be allowed time to prepare for your treatment, in this time you will be asked to change, and we provide wet wipes for you to freshen up, so don’t worry if you have to come from work! Although we prefer it if you are comfortable to wear no underwear during the process, we can provide you with disposable underwear if you wish so. During your treatment you will be asked to hold your skin or legs in certain positions. Please note that clients are NOT required to assume positions such as on all fours in order to wax the hard-to-reach areas. We perform all waxing from a lying down position for minimum embarrassed and maximum comfort!
  • Self-help for Hyperhidrosis
To help manage hyperhidrosis, the first agents to try are topical products that can help to absorb the excess sweat, such as talcum powder and corn-starch powder (e.g. Zeasorb®). These are usually only helpful in mild cases. Stronger antiperspirants containing aluminium chloride e.g. Driclor ® and AnHydrolForte® can be used for armpits, hands and feet. They are applied 2-3 times a week at night and washed off in the morning to avoid damage to clothes. Application can be effective especially for underarm sweating. However, they can cause the skin to become irritated over time. If this happens you should consult your doctor.
  • What are the symptoms of Hyperhidrosis?
Visible sweat, wet clothes and clammy palms are common symptoms. People often find this embarrassing, and it can affect work and personal relationships. Sweaty hands can cause problems with shaking hands, writing on paper, using keyboards, playing musical instruments, and playing racquet sports. Hyperhidrosis affects the water-producing (“eccrine”) sweat glands, and not the “apocrine” sweat glands which produce the oilier type of sweat and cause odour, especially under the arms. Therefore, bad odour is not a direct result of hyperhidrosis; however, if your feet sweat excessively, an overgrowth of harmless skin bacteria can cause an unpleasant smell.
  • Am I suitable for treatment?
At Bela Aesthetics, we require that you attend an initial consultation to discussion with our Aesthetician about your expectations, the possible side effects, complications, what the treatment involves, pain control and aftercare. Botulinum Toxin (commonly referred to as Botox) is a prescription only medicine, therefore it is paramount that you have a face-to-face consultation at least 1 weeks prior to treatment. Before seeking treatment with botulinum toxin for Hyperhidrosis, make sure you have had a proper diagnosis from your GP and perhaps tried other options available. For best results skin should be in good condition and the target lines not too furrowed.
  • Are there any alternatives to this treatment?
Before being offered botulinum toxin injections for your hyperhidrosis, you may have already tried other treatments, such as powder deodorants containing aluminium chloride hexahydrate and oral medications that block sweating as a side effect. An alternative to botulinum toxin injections is surgery to remove some of the nerve tissue that emits signals to stimulate the sweat glands. However, surgery is only used a last resort when all other treatments have failed, as there are more risks, and it does not guarantee a cure.
  • How does Botulinum toxin (BOTOX®) work to stop Hyperhidrosis?
Botulinum toxin injections help to control the symptoms of severe sweating where other treatments have not been successful. In addition, avoiding drinking alcohol or eating spicy food can help to minimise your symptoms.
